The Benefits of Infrared Sauna

The Benefits of Infrared Sauna
September 5, 2024Blog

Labor Day marks the unofficial end of Summer in the U.S. In Texas and the South, we look forward to cooler temperatures as we endured another hot Summer. However, working outside in the Summer does the body good. Physical activity that increases heart rate, increases breathing and causes a sweat is our natural way of detoxifying our body. Our primary routes of detoxification are through sweating, breathing, urination and defecation. As Fall and Winter come upon us, we can still enjoy the benefits of sweating and detoxification through the use of an infrared sauna.

We live in an ever increasing toxic environment. Our body has mechanisms in place to help detoxify. If we do not, the toxins can build up and make us sick. Toxins come in many forms, from bacterial and viral infections, heavy metals, herbicides and pesticides from our food, mold and mycotoxins, petroleum and chemical toxins in our water supply and even the air we breathe. Some of these toxins are water soluble and some are fat soluble and become stored in fat. One of the many benefits of infrared sauna is to help facilitate the detoxification of many toxins that can accumulate in our body.

I use an infrared sauna almost every day. I start my morning with a infrared sauna session at 170 degrees Fahrenheit for 30 minutes. In order to optimize the session, before I get in, I take 750 mg of niacin to help cause lipolysis to release any stored toxins, my N1o1 nitric oxide lozenge and a binder such as chorella or spirulina. You can also use activated charcoal or bentonite clay. Once I start to feel the flush from the high dose niacin, I get into the sauna. I also have an ozone generator in my sauna to help oxygenate and disinfect the toxins that may be released. I learned this protocol from a physician that used to treat Vietnam veterans who were sick from Agent Orange exposure during the Vietnam War. He had incredible success with these patients. I thought if this helps those that are sick from toxins, this would be a great way to help rid toxins before we get sick. Sitting in 170 degrees for half an hour increases my heart rate, I practice deep breathing, I stretch my muscles and I sweat profusely. I also take this time to do my morning prayers, prepare a game plan for the day ahead, express gratitude and set my intentions to be better and more productive than I was yesterday. I have found this to be a great way to start each day. When I am traveling, I find a hotel that has a sauna so I don’t miss a day.

The benefits of sauna extend well beyond detoxification. Infrared sauna can lead to relaxation, weight loss, lower blood pressure, improved circulation, pain relief from achy muscles, better looking skin, enhanced immune function and enhanced muscle recovery. The specific use of an infrared sauna provides additional benefit from just providing heat. The infrared light has been shown to activate mitochondria to improve cellular energy. This particular wavelength of light can release nitric oxide bound to metals thereby dilating blood vessels and improving circulation. However, there must be sufficient nitric oxide stores built up in order for the NO to be released by the infrared light. It helps to take a nitric oxide lozenge in order to titrate up the photo-labile stores of nitric oxide to enhance the effects of the infrared. The extra NO can help improve circulation so you can get better mobilization of any toxins that may be released during the sauna session. You should also consider an infrared sauna that does not emit EMFs or electromagnetic fields that can limit its therapeutic effects.

It is hard work trying to stay healthy in an unhealthy world. If you wait until you have time to take action and do these small simple steps, it will never happen. That is why I always MAKE time and stay consistent. Staying hydrated by drinking mineralized filtered water before and after sauna is really important. This will help replace any electrolytes lost during sweat and help with urination to help with additional excretion of toxins. The infrared sauna becomes really beneficial during the winter months when there is less sunlight and can help with seasonal affective disorders. Invest just 30 minutes each day into your health and you will be surprised at what a huge difference your body will experience. We live in a world where no one sweats anymore. Most people use anti-perspirants which themselves are toxic and prevent our body from detoxifying. We must move away from putting toxins in and on our body. I have not used underarm deodorant or anti-perspirants in more than 20 years and yet I don’t have body odor. Or at least no one has informed me. Body odor is caused by bacterial dysbiosis. If we support our healthy microbiome including our skin microbiome, they keep the odor causing bacteria away. Ozone also helps with the odor causing bacteria. When we sweat we release ammonia. A healthy skin microbiome contains ammonia oxidizing bacteria that produce nitric oxide. Nitric oxide produced on the skin helps kill off pathogenic odor causing bacteria. Nature has a way of protecting us. Harness the power of nature and get healthy.

Most if not all chronic diseases, including cardiovascular disease (the number one killer of men and women worldwide) are characterized and associated with loss of nitric oxide production.
