ELIMINATE PRE-DIABETES AND DIABETES WITH FUNCTIONAL NITRIC OXIDE NUTRITION
Diabetes is a growing epidemic around the globe.
In the United States alone more than 34 million Americans have diabetes. This represents more than 10% of the U.S. population. Of the 34 million, 7.3 million are undiagnosed. Another 88 million people over the age of 18 have pre-diabetes or 35% of the U.S. population.
These numbers reveal that almost half of the entire U.S. population has a metabolic disease with uncontrolled sugar regulation. The total healthcare costs associated with the treatment of diabetes is more than $320 billion every year.
This is not getting better despite billions of dollars invested every year in research on diabetes.
Loss of nitric oxide causes diabetes
Having diabetes puts you at risk for every major human chronic disease known.
If you have diabetes, you have twice the likelihood of having a heart attack or stroke. Some studies reveal a 93% increase in Alzheimers if you have diabetes. If you have diabetes, you have twice the chance of developing cancer than those without diabetes.
Cardiovascular disease, Alzheimers and cancer are the leading causes of death even without diabetes. If you have diabetes you increase your odds of getting these and other diseases.
Most people do not die of diabetes but rather die from the vascular complications of diabetes.
Mechanistically, science reveals that the complications of diabetes arise from insufficient nitric oxide production.
The loss of nitric oxide explains diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, peripheral neuropathy, poor wound healing, poor blood sugar management and insulin levels. In other words, loss of nitric oxide causes insulin resistance and if not corrected will develop into full blown diabetes.
This became apparent by observing mice where the nitric oxide synthase enzyme was deleted. These mice develop type 2 insulin resistant diabetes. We published more than 10 years ago that nitric oxide is required for insulin signaling and is needed in order for cells to take up glucose.
Without nitric oxide, the cells do not get the signal to take up glucose. As a consequence, glucose accumulates in the blood, you develop hyperglycemia and this tells your pancreas to secrete more insulin. Elevated insulin along with elevated blood sugar destroys your blood vessels and activates your platelets to form clots.
This leads to increased risk of heart attack and stroke and leads to insufficient blood flow to all cells, tissues and organs in the body. Without sufficient blood flow, nerves cannot function and neuropathy develops. The eyes begin to fail. Infections set in, wounds develop and the known symptoms of diabetes manifest.
Effective diabetic treatments are dependent upon nitric oxide
The scientific and medical community has known for decades that diabetes is treatable and reversible with diet and exercise.
For years, health care practitioners have focused on recommending a low glycemic index diet to manage diabetes. This helps due to the reduction in sugar and simple carbohydrate consumption but it does not address the fundamental issue with diabetes and that is the loss of nitric oxide production.
Exercise helps with regulation of blood sugar but we know diabetics have a difficult time exercising because they cannot make nitric oxide to increase blood flow to working skeletal and heart muscle. As a consequence, they cannot maintain an effective exercise regimen.
Drugs like metformin or Glucophage activate a pathway called AMP kinase which acts to stimulate the enzymatic production of nitric oxide. However, this does not happen in diabetics because the enzyme that makes nitric oxide is not functional. This is like trying to start a car without a spark plug. It will not happen.
So rather than continuing to do what has not worked in diabetes for decades, let’s get to the root of the problem.
How to fix nitric oxide production in diabetes?
Now that we understand how the human body produces nitric oxide and what goes wrong in people that cannot make NO, we can now make solid and scientifically validated recommendations on how to fix the underlying problem.
Rather than focusing on a low glycemic index diet alone, we must increase consumption of nitrate rich vegetables to promote NO production. We must also begin to eliminate daily practices that disrupt nitric oxide production.
Below are tips that you can take to help your body restore the production of nitric oxide that is causing your diabetes. You must stop doing the things that inhibit NO production and start doing the things that promote NO production.
Things that disrupt nitric oxide production:
1. Antiseptic mouthwash and fluoride. Stop using mouthwash and fluoride toothpaste.
2. Antacids. Stop using antacids, specifically proton pump inhibitors.
3. Stop eating high carbohydrate and highly processed junk food. High glucose causes glycation of the enzyme that makes nitric oxide and stops it from working.
Things that promote or restore nitric oxide production:
1. Healthy balanced diet with lots of green vegetables. Avoid carbohydrates.
2. Moderate physical exercise.
3. Infrared light therapy or infrared sauna.
4. Safe and effective nitric oxide supplementation.
The science is clear. Your body cannot and will not heal without nitric oxide. The consequences of insufficient nitric oxide production is the onset and progression of every major human chronic disease known.
If this does not get your attention, then nothing will.
In this season of Lent we reflect on individual sacrifices and giving up certain things to bring us closer to God. Make the sacrifices to improve your health. Give up the sweets and artificial sweeteners. Artificial sweeteners do more harm than sugar. Change your diet, get up and exercise.
Don’t just focus on what not to eat but focus on functional nitric oxide nutrition to help your body produce this essential molecule. We have products you can take to help your body make NO. For diabetics this should be a primary consideration. Take a nitric oxide product prior to exercise to help your body improve circulation and enhance glucose uptake.
I’ve witnessed over the past 12 years the life changing effects of nitric oxide. I still get dozens of emails, phone calls and texts from people whose life was saved by nitric oxide. I can tell you, there is nothing more gratifying that hearing “you saved my life.”
Despite all the battles, frustrations, naysayers, resistance by health care, the science is clear.
They say knowledge is power. Knowledge without action is a waste. Don’t waste your life. Do what it takes to get your health back.
Don’t become a statistic.
